East China Normal University

East China Normal University (ECNU) is located in Shanghai, a renowned international metropolis .

Founded in October 1951, ECNU is one of the prestigious universities in China . In 2017, it was selected as one of the category A universities in China's Double First-Class University Program . The university has two campuses, in Minhang and Putuo districts, with a total area of more than 207 hectares, and is known as a "garden university" .

ECNU's motto is "Seek truth, foster originality, and live up to the name of a teacher", with a mission to foster "creativity, character, community" . Adhering to the strategy of "interdisciplinary, internationalization and informatization", and the "three programs" – "developing education excellence, promoting interdisciplinary academic excellence, and serving national strategies", ECNU has made great achievements in talent training, scientific research, community service, and international exchanges .

As of June 2025, ECNU has 4 faculties, 34 colleges (departments), and 62 undergraduate majors . It has more than 2,300 full-time teachers, about 15,800 full-time undergraduate students, more than 4,000 doctoral students, more than 17,000 master's students, and more than 2,500 international students (degree students) . The university has 36 first-level doctoral degree authorization disciplines, 37 first-level master's degree authorization disciplines, 3 second-level master's degree authorization disciplines, 36 master's professional degree categories, and 8 doctoral professional degree categories, as well as 27 post-doctoral research stations .

In the 2025 QS World University Rankings, ECNU is ranked 501st, and in the 2025 Soft Science China University Rankings, it is ranked 30th .
