About CINGAI

Establishment

During the 2017 World Intelligence Congress, the Chinese Institute of New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies (CINGAI) was established by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Tianjin Municipal People's Government. At its opening ceremony, Zhou Ji, the then President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Li Xiaohong, Secretary of the Leading Group of the CPC Committee of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Li Hongzhong, Secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and Wang Dongfeng, the then Deputy Secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and the then Mayor of Tianjin Municipality signed an agreement andinaugurated the institute. With strong leadership, the CINGAI implements the system of director assuming responsibility for the institute. Besides, while affiliated with Nankai University and Tianjin University, the institute relies on Nankai University to develop.

Features

The CINGAI has developed the mode of “From Small Entity to National Union and Global Network”, and distinguishes itself from other technological developmentinstitutes with the focus on strategic research and the strong support from the multidisciplinary integration strategy of Nankai University. Drawing on local resources, the CINGAI is determined to build a national union of artificial intelligence and to absorb global resources to establish a multidisciplinary research platform and a high-end think tank in combining liberal arts and science. More importantly, as the only industry strategic institute that the Chinese Institute of Engineering has established in the field of artificial intelligence, the CINGAI enjoys the support of a large number of senior academicians and every year manages to undertake lots of major strategic consulting projects under their leadership. Based on earlier research, the CINGAI will open network safety and digital economy research centers to better strengthen its foundation. While carrying out strategic research in other related areas, the CINGAI also decides to strengthen its cooperation with governments at all levels, industry groups and enterprises in the field of intelligence. In this scenario, it will be able to provide more high-quality research results and targeted policy advice, and offers a bridge as well as a model in the intelligent reform of enterprises.

Research Areas and Achievements

The CINGAI focuses on its self-construction and now has established an artificial intelligence research platform on the basis of both liberal arts and science. The platform covers a range of disciplines, including computer, robotics, big data, automatic control, electronic information, medicine, economy, finance, management, philosophy and law. The CINGAI has a top scientific research team consisting of leading cademiciansZhong Denghua, Liao Xiangke and Zhang Guangjun, and interdisciplinary research teams of artificial intelligence from Nankai University, Tianjin University, Southeast University and so on. The CINGAI has established a standard and effective academic management system. The academic committee holds regular meetings to hear reports of the institute’s researching work and the progress of the academician-leading consulting projects. The CINGAI advocates openness and plays an active role in connecting itself with strategic research institutes both at home and abroad, artificial intelligence enterprises and university research centers. Through these efforts, it aims to provide policy advice to integrate enterprises, universities and research institutes and associate politics, businesses and education.
