1. About RAI-GI
The Responsible AI Governance Initiative (RAI-GI) is a nonprofit organization based in Abuja, Nigeria, dedicated to fostering ethical, inclusive, and accountable AI development and deployment across Africa.
We are committed to building governance frameworks that ensure AI technologies advance human rights, democratic values, and sustainable development, while proactively addressing emerging risks, including long-term existential threats.
2.Mission
To promote ethical, inclusive, and accountable AI development in Africa by building robust governance frameworks, influencing policy, and fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration. We work to mitigate both near-term harms—such as algorithmic bias, inequality, and disinformation—and long-term risks, including existential threats posed by unaligned advanced AI systems.
3.Vision
A future where artificial intelligence is developed and deployed in ways that safeguard human dignity, strengthen democratic institutions, and ensure equitable benefits for all—beginning in Nigeria, with global impact.
4. Core Objectives
Policy Development: Draft and promote national and regional AI policies rooted in ethics, transparency, and fairness.
Capacity Building: Empower policymakers, researchers, and civil society organizations with knowledge and skills for AI governance.
Public Engagement: Educate communities about AI opportunities, risks, and rights to ensure informed participation in AI-driven futures.
Research and Foresight: Advance independent research into AI safety, alignment, bias mitigation, and long-term governance frameworks.
Global Partnerships: Collaborate with international bodies, academia, think tanks, and industry to align African perspectives with global AI governance efforts.
