Mr. Ciyong Zou Addresses RCEP High-Level Dialogue on Economic and Trade Cooperation

Nanning, Guangxi, China – September 24, 2024 – Mr. Ciyong Zou, Deputy to the Director General and Managing Director of UNIDO’s Directorate of Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Industrial Development (TCS), delivered a keynote speech at the RCEP High-Level Dialogue on Economic and Trade Cooperation, a significant side event of the 2024 China-ASEAN Expo.

The dialogue, themed “Promoting Upgrades to the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 and Sharing RCEP Regional Economic Integration,” convened distinguished leaders from RCEP Member Countries to advance discussions on enhancing regional economic collaboration.

In his remarks, Mr. Zou  highlighted the pivotal role of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in fostering sustainable economic growth and resilience. He emphasized that RCEP serves not only as a trade framework but as a vital platform for enhancing cooperation among nations.

“RCEP stands as a beacon of opportunity, strengthening supply chain resilience and promoting inclusive growth,” Mr. Zou stated. He underscored the importance of harmonizing digital trade protocols, reducing non-tariff barriers, and supporting SMEs through capacity building and human development. These critical areas are essential for streamlining trade, fostering innovation, and ensuring that all stakeholders can thrive in an evolving economic landscape.

As nations face profound changes in the global economic environment, Mr. Zou reiterated UNIDO’s commitment to partnering with RCEP countries to promote resilience and sustainable practices. He concluded by expressing optimism for a prosperous future built on shared cooperation and inclusive development.
